"We are faced with a mental alchemy that transforms a state of mind into a gesture - the dry, naked, linear gesture that all our acts could have if they aimed at the absolute."
Antonin Artaud

Scream is a new clown performance inspired by the expressionist work "Skrik" by Edvard Munch. It shows an androgynous figure, ruled by the habit of living, in a moment of combat with itself.

With this performance Rui Paixão seeks to provoke and explore new alternatives for the clown in contemporaneity, thus widening the possibilities and validating his research for what he calls the "Omnium State" as the engine for what he believes to be the future of clown art.

Rui Paixão was born on the 6th of October 1995. He graduated in theater at the Academia Contemporânea do Espetáculo in the city of Porto, finishing the course in 2014 (3 years of training in acting, new circus, acrobatics, dance, physical theater...). He began his professional career with the Portuguese company of New Circus Radar 360°. After a year of professional experience Rui Paixão developed work linked to the investigation and exploration of the Clown and street arts. At the age of 20 he founded the company Cão à Chuva and was considered by Imaginarius the revelation of street arts in Portugal, won the OFF CIRCADA UNIA award in Seville as an emerging artist in contemporary circus and participated in the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. In November 2015 he passed an audition for physical actors and clowns of Cirque du Soleil. 2016 marks the year in which he took his first creation to countries like Spain, France, Germany and Netherlands strengthening the relevance of his work focus.
