Monólogo de uma mulher chamada Maria com a sua patroa

Cine-Teatro Garrett, Sala Principal (Main Room)

Synopsis

A monologue between a woman named Maria and her employer is the title clandestinely stolen from a text in the book “Novas Cartas Portuguesas”, which sets the tone for this show. We start from the creation of the first Domestic Service Union in Portugal to tell the story, still little known, little told, little recognized, little valued, of women's work, their power of organization, claim and change. It is the story of the women who clean the world, the women who take care of the world, the women who produce, educate and prepare the workforce. This is the story of the invisible work that sets the world in motion.

Biography

Cassandra is an artistic structure founded in 2020, in Porto, by Sara Barros Leitão. Throughout 2021, she develops the project Heroides – feminist book club, and premieres the show “Monólogo de uma mulher chamada Maria com a sua patroa”, which will be on national tour until 2022. After Sara Barros Leitão has written, staged and interpreted the shows “Theory of Three Ages” (2018, produced by Teatro Experimental do Porto) and “Todos os Dias Me Sujo de Coisas Eternas” (2019), this new creation comes as the end of this trilogy of monologues.
