némesis – anatomia de personagem

Mercado Municipal (Municipal Market), Vila do Conde

Synopsis

mémesis - anatomy of a character constitutes the process of writing and constructing the character Némesis — the Greek goddess of Vengeance and Justice — whose final outcome reached the stage following the first presentation of these works.
Joana Africano, Pedro Galiza, Daniel Silva, Pedro Correia, and Simão do Vale Africano carry out a living dissection of the archetype of the “Agent of Chaos,” in which Némesis takes on the cutting words of characters such as Joker, Tyler Durden, and V as her own.
The results - three possible némesis - are materialized in performance, in tik-tok video format, and translated into the subcutaneous layer of the character’s skin through the creation of three panels using the encaustic technique.

Biography

Joana Africano (Porto, 1990) is a multidisciplinary artist whose work moves between performance, directing, and visual creation. A graduate of ESMAE, she has collaborated with several directors, including Nuno Carinhas, Ricardo Pais, and Simão do Vale Africano, in productions at Teatro Nacional São João. Since 2015, she has been a member of Subcutâneo – Associação Cultural, where she develops her own projects and collaborates as a performer and costume designer. In film and television, she has worked with figures such as César Mourão and António-Pedro Vasconcelos. In 2024, she created and performed NÉMESIS, a monologue that consolidates her artistic identity — rigorous, visual, and emotionally intense.
